Why are we all so quick to say ‘I’m usually a very happy person’ whenever we are feeling sad?

It's like we have to justify and defend our sadness to others.

Like it’s bad, or wrong, or somehow makes us broken or less than.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sadness is a legitimate and necessary emotion we all need to feel.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Think about it… there would be something wrong with you if you never felt sad.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So stop apologising for feeling it.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sorrow is vital and important to your wellbeing.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

No one explains it better than Hafiz, in his poem ‘Brings life to a field…

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

‘It is not possible to complete yourself without sorrow.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sorrow is a vital ingredient that shapes the heart and enriches it.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So endure sadness best you can when its season comes.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

That rain that can fall from your eye brings life to a field.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

And on other days when you laugh, a sun takes birth in a sky you will someday know.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

See how all the elements are inside of you.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

See how your soul is the sire of light.’
